Most out of state license plates I've seen is Florida, and I know there are many snowbirds here in NY that go back and forth from FL and NY so I ask why.
Because of the warm weather and no state tax? why specifically Florida?
why not for example, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Alabama, etc.
And also bonus question:
Where in Florida do most people move to? Miami? Orlando? Jacksonville? etc
You got Me i"d say Space but Florida Dosin"t have much as other states like PA or NY only thing i can Think of is NYers are Scared of the Cold
my Friend Moved to Daytona 2 years ago from Selden
Probably the biggest reasons are warmer weather and no state tax.
BTW a lot of FL license plates are dopey kids using Grandma's address to get lower insurance rates. Not all snowbirds. Used to see it all.the.time when I worked in insurance.
I might pay $20 a month for the extra electric for my A/C. What do YOU pay for that heating oil? Lord, you people can be SO rude!
My AC bill around $125/month in Florida, year round. With gas heat on the budget plan my gas heat bill was about the same (4 years ago), but not year round. Switch to gas. It's cheaper and cleaner than oil. When the price of gas goes down, you will get a rebate. Once you pay for that oil in your tank, that is it. You won't get money back if the prices go down.
Based on my own families experience moving to FL...
Reasons why people move to FL:
1) Tired of NY weather - especially the winter
2) FL is a no income-tax state
3) FL is a homestead state
4) They have family who has moved there
5) Like the Carolina's, moving somewhere where the is a large population of people living who also came from the same place as you is comforting and reduces the anxiety of being in a "new" place. FL is really only an extension of NY - IMHO.
6) It's a relatively fast and inexpensive flight back to NY to visit family
Reasons people might like it less once there:
1) No significant savings in cost of living (gas, electric, food, etc.)
2) No significant difference in housing costs (assuming you are living in a comparable upper-middle class area similar to many of the areas on LI)
3) Ever increasing property taxes (quickly becoming similar to those on LI)
4) Hurricane insurance costs can make your property tax bill look like a bargain
5) High cooling/electric costs
6) Generally lacks the natural beauty of the LI
7) It's a TROPICAL environment - an exterminator will be on your payroll
8) The months when you are not perspiring like a filthy animal (mid-May through Sept) will also bring droves of northerners and Canadians to escape winter - and with them traffic, accidents, LONG lines at the local eateries, entertainment spots, etc.
