I'm looking to move, and here's my "ideal" locale:
- I like cold weather (especially cooler summers than down south); detest hot weather
- I want to be near (or few hours from) mountains, water, trees
- I'd like to be near a moderate sized city or town
- decent night life or at least bars, pubs, etc
- friendly, outgoing people with active community
- not ridiculously expensive

I'd really appreciate your suggestions. I've considered Portland, ME; Burlington, VT; and Bozeman, MT so far. I teach high school chemistry, so you never know when jobs are open in good places. Either way, I should be able to find work as a teacher.

You could look into Ithaca NY as well, but it may be a matter of finding a job there.

I will look at Ithaca and Spokane. I've never visited either place. Specifically, what makes you mention those two places?

Ithaca has a similar vibe to Burlington, while being a little more affordable in terms of overall COL.
