Around the New York and Boston area, there are Caribbean communities but where do you find the most recent immigrants from Africa? Are there cities where first or second generation Africans are the majority?

I have heard that Atlanta, Dallas, Washington DC and Houston are leading in the African immigrant communities. As these cities all have large African American populations the actual immigrants from Africa are going to still be a small percentage.

Minneapolis/St. Paul has a huge recent Somalian immigrant population. The native born African American population in these cities is still considerably bigger, though.

It's a small city, but Lewiston Maine has a substantial (for its size) population of Somali immigrants.

There are also noticeble numbers of African immigrants in Portland

I still think there are more African Americans than Africans in Utica, New York, but it's pretty close.

Sioux Falls, SD is only about 5% black but I wouldn't be one bit surprised if the bulk of them were African immigrants rather than US-born African Americans.

According to the Migration Institute "over half of all African immigrants resided in New York, California, Texas, Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey, and Massachusetts."

1/3 of the US African born population lives in 4 metropolitan areas: New York-Newark, Washington D.C., Atlanta, and Minneapolis-St. Paul.

Anecdotally, Minneapolis has a significant Somali community, Houston a large Nigerian community, Worcester a large Ghanian community, Washington D.C. a large Ethiopian community.

There are no cities where foreign born africans are the majority. However, Minneapolis probably has the largest amount of africans in proportion to the population of the city. I believe minneapolis's african population makes up eight percent of their population. Then you have major cities which have african populations
