Keep in mind that they still get their share of transplants with the Casino industry and the military on the coast in Gulfport/Biloxi area. Even Jackson gains a few from job relocations and students at their universities. Ole Miss in Oxford too.

I'm thinking it's got to be between Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana (especially outside of New Orleans) or Arkansas. Maybe Oklahoma. Yes, all of those states have some transplants, but those are the places where the southern culture seems to be most pure and undiluted.

Mississippi has less transplants than Alabama so that would rule AL out. Louisiana has New Orleans. I would think that'd rule it out as well.

Lesser known Arkansas seems to fit the bill quite well. I would rank MS as 2nd runner up.

Listed in my order from least amount of transplants to most:

Arkansas
Mississippi
Alabama
Louisiana
Tennessee
Oklahoma
Kentucky
South Carolina
Georgia
North Carolina
Texas
Virginia
Florida

I had always heard that North Carolina and Louisiana traditionall had the highest percentage of its residents to be native born than the other Southern states. With the mass influx of transplants to North Carolina the past 20 or so years, I'm pretty sure it is now Louisiana.

And at 61.2%, Arkansas would fall between its neighbors Texas and Oklahoma.
