I am looking to relocate myself and 88 year old Father to a low humidity, warm year round city in California. Asking for even more, affordable to live and close to VA facilities. Living in Texas is getting the better of us! Arthritis has a grip on us both, but having several nerve damages myself finds my interests leading back to CA. We are on fixed incomes and that drives us away from the much desired San Diego area. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

These are some of the VA medical centers/ hospitals in CA

San Diego
San Francisco
Los Angeles
Long Beach
Palo Alto
Menlo Park
Livermore

All of the above are in expensive, affluent areas. Nothing affordable about housing in those cities.

Then there are three other VA medical centers/ hospitals

Mather- just outside Sacramento
Fresno
Loma Linda - just outside San Bernadino

One of the three above might be do-able for you. Obviously they are all way inland, but that goes hand in hand with affordability in CA. You might want to post on the CA forum to get ideas about each of the cities.

I have RA and the places I feel the best are in the desert. I prefer the high desert area around Joshua Tree National Park and there are some reasonably priced areas out there - Yucca Valley being the largest small town. Lots of retired vets in the area I believe. Not sure where the closest VA facility would be. Also the area of NE LA county - Palmdale and Lancaster vicinity. Again, I'm not sure about the VA availability.

Also, you might consider Riverside. It has some nice affordable areas both in town and in the surrounding areas. And they do have a VA facility.
