Seattle is a fabulously beautiful city, I've been twice and would go again for a visit in a heartbeat. If you are looking for a place with milder weather, you probably wouldn't do wrong considering it (although it is no Chicago
Seattle's huge strength is the incredible amount of outdoorsy type activities that are available nearby and the beautify scenery surrounding the city.
Thought neither Seattle or San Franscisco is like Chicago in the winter, neither one stays warm enough for an extended period. Both are humid and receive tons of rain and fog. If it gets 80 degrees in San Franscisco its a heat wave......ideally I would live somewhere off the coast of San Fran to enjoy warmer and drier days, but still be close enough to enjoy the city's benefits
