I want to know what is the best movie that takes place in your city. I recommend that it be a movie in which the city is a major character, not a movie that feels like it could have taken place anywhere. I will begin with a list of some of my favorites:
New York City- The Warriors
Great movie traversing the entire city during some of it's gritiest years. Among other movies, really affected how people saw the city.
Los Angeles- Falling Down
Also traverses much of the city and really symbolic of how disconnected we can become in modern American life.
Chicago- Cooley High
Classic about growing up Black in Chicago which is at times funny and light-hearted, and devastatingly harsh at others.
Boston- Good Will Hunting
Introduced Boston's Southie neighborhood to America and launched the careers of Ben Affleck and much more importantly, Matt Damon.
San Francisco- Bullitt
Classic car chase through the hilly streets of SF that is still the standard to this day.
Miami- The Birdcage
Hilarious re-make that is better than the original, showcasing some of the eccentricities of Miami.
Salt Lake City- SLC Punk
Poignant look at the punk scene in the city you would least expect it. Gives us a very different look at SLC.
Austin- Dazed & Confused
Many probably didn't know this movie took place in Austin, but to Austinites it makes utter sense.
Las Vegas- Leaving Las Vegas
Most devastating portrayal of hitting rock bottom that I've ever seen on film. Can't think of a better place to do it than Vegas.
San Diego- Anchorman
Will Ferrel's most hilarious work that gave some of the most memorable quotes about the city. "Whale's vagina", anyone?

I couldn't stand more than about 5 minutes of that movie... after watching Old School, Will Ferrel let me down so much. If that's San Diego's best, that's pathetic... but sadly (and I'm admittedly not a big movie fan), I can't think of anything else really to put up instead.
The Death of Ocean View Park-Norfolk, Virginia
lots of shots of the area, navy base and of course the now defunct Ocean View amusement park.
Ladybugs, the Rodney Dangerfield flick showed us was Littleton, CO was like long before that city became infamous thanks to Columbine.
Bruce Almighty I thought gave Buffalo, NY a movie to brag about. A movie that is set in their city without any mention of snow !! And they promoted WKBW as well. A very well known set of call letters to many who lived on the east coast back in the 60s and 70s and were into AM rock and roll radio.
John Waters and Baltimore ( A Dirty Shame, Pink Flamingos, Hairspray, Female Trouble, etc..) yes Waters is not for everyone but he does do a good job promoting Maryland, even if one does doesn't get his kind of humor.
Chicago-Blues Brothers.
St. Paul-Fargo.
St. Paul-Grumpy Old Men.
Minneapolis-Purple Rain.
Landover-Heavy Metal Parking Lot.
