Searching IMDB for filming locations: (number of pictures listing each city in credits for filming location)

Toronto 6,351
Vancouver 4,974
San Francisco 5,185
Chicago 3,882
Las Vegas 2.634
Miami 2,389
Washington DC 2,206
Philadelphia 1,874
Atlanta 1,815
Boston 1,812
San Diego 1,691
Austin 1,610
New Orleans 1,416
Dallas 1,408
Seattle 1,376

Washington and Las Vegas are probably exaggerated due to brief exterior shooting of scenes that had to be done in those locations, often without any location casting.

This list is historical, and does not necessarily reflect current filming activity in any city. But filming location were rarely credited before the last couple of decades, so it would largely reflect recent activity.

For comparison, Los Angeles had 65,000, New York 35,000 and Hollywood 23,000.

How are Cleveland and Detroit not on that list? Nearly every action movie, or really any movie that has a scene in a warehouse, is partially filmed in one of those cities. I used to date an actor in Cincinnati and he would get casting calls up in Cleveland almost bi-weekly.

They're filming a lot of movies in Louisiana, Pennsylvania, and Georgia. For some reason many aren't set in these places even though it could be, like that movie Snitch with Dwayne Johnson was filmed in Louisiana but takes place in Missouri, when they could have just set it in Shreveport.

I can only see New Orleans and Atlanta. They are the only cities I know, outside of NYC and LA, that are constantly filming in their areas year-round.

Detroit has castings all year, but most are usually lower-budget indie films or commercials. Big name productions are less common now after the governor cut back on tax incentives for film making. Though there's still one or two each summer.
