I do think well designed flags create some pride, and do have an impact on how people view their state. My state, Kansas, has a terrible flag. Evidently, we have mountains, steamboats, huge bodies of water, people with guns chasing buffalo, people passing through, and a farmer using horses (not even oxen) to plow a field.
But we do have an awesome motto, perhaps one of the best. "Ad Astra Per Aspera." "Through hardships to the stars"

I have always thought the city of Wichita had a neat flag.

Agreed. Killing your enemy with a flagpole is one of life's most majestic pleasures.

The Kansas flag does have sunflowers though!

When I was 18 and living in Georgia (I had no idea I would eventually land in Texas and live there for decades!), I went to a Willie Nelson concert.

The way he used to always open his concerts was on a pitch dark stage, and then a light would shine brightly as a huge Texas flag unfurled across the whole back of the stage, and the first chords of "Whisky River" would ring out.

It brought the house down.

Texas is a fun state to get gung ho about, and I think the simplicity of it's flag makes it immediately recognizable to most people.

All these years later and he's still doing it! "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

There are flags that look like the Lone Star Banner, like that one with only a half-field of blue (PR?) but I usually mistake them for the TX flag anyway.

Also, it looks like the flag of one of those countries in Africa where armies of 8 year olds take drugs, kill, rape, torture and then play soccer with human heads.

Let's face it, most U.S. State flags are way too ugly and busy to get excited about. Texas easily has the best looking flag (simple, instantly recognizable, and even has the U.S. colors), which is part of the reason you see it everywhere all the time, ESPECIALLY throughout Texas; I think it definitely boosts Texas' already huge state pride to another level.

So, no...
Many moons ago I read an article about redesigning the state flags….

1. Simplicity works well in flags

2. Two or three contrasting colors work well. For example, red, white and blue.

I think AZ has a really cool flag, but I've never met anyone from there that was proud the same way a Texan or New Yorker would be.
