How on earth can a CITY be introverted or extroverted?

PEOPLE are introverts or extroverts (or somewhere in between), but not cities.

Of course it depends on the person, but generalizations can be made sometimes. Otherwise, you are saying that Brazilians or Greeks (on average) have the same level of introversion as Japanese or Finnish (on average). We both know that it all depends on the person, but overall cultural traits exist.

I personally found much of the PNW to be a lot less chit chatty than areas in California, the Midwest, or especially the South.

You will never get this through their heads. Been arguing this for years. Some people even think cities can be friendly or unfriendly.

Um, I wasn't saying that at all; you missed my point. What I was saying was:

- PEOPLE in Brazil can be on average more extroverted than PEOPLE in Finland. <--- OK (assuming it's true)
- Brazil is more extroverted than Finland. <--- makes no sense; the COUNTRY isn't extroverted. (Does the COUNTRY go to parties and speak with lots of other countries? I think not.)

How can a REGION OF THE COUNTRY be "chit chatty"? A region of the country cannot speak.

When I moved down south from Minnesota, I noticed the people are way more extroverted on average.

Eeek.
It's metonymy.

People in Denver are more 'introverted' than people in the East Coast or the South. Almost all of the transplants I talked to agree with this assessment. At the same time though they're as polite and helpful if not more so.

Yeah, I don't know why it's so hard to interpret this question as meaning "in which cities does the prevailing culture direct people to reach out to unfamiliar people and make them feel welcome, versus those where that culture directs them to keep to themselves and be wary of unfamiliar people?"

<sigh> Seriously, why is it so hard to simply WRITE, "Which cities have the largest proportion of introverted or extroverted people?" THAT would be clear and correct. Asking what "city" is the most introverted is just, well, silly, since CITIES cannot be introverted or extroverted -- but the people IN THEM can be.

See, that wasn't hard at all, was it?

You think so? In my experience people here will use any excuse to speak to you.
