The term might be overused but at a term that makes sense. And it seems that the southern posters seem to have the biggest issue with the term.
I haven't seen a clear correlation between those who have some issue with the term "world class cities" and the region of the country they're from. The major complaint seems to be that the term is too nebulous to have a consistent meaning, and a big reason for this is that the term "world class" has indeed been overused in reference to many different things.

And are these cities as bad for Blacks as the media continues to insist that they are or is the media perpetrating this idea because someone does not want Black people up North anymore? For years we heard New York, Chicago, St. Louis, Cleveland, Detroit, DC, now all we hear is Atlanta, Charlotte.
I have relatives in the Midwest located in Kansas City and Omaha areas. My visiting experience from both cities was decent and laid-back.

Looking back at this, out of the 2, it may be a tough call.

As for the second question, it depends on what you are looking for.

Cites like Buffalo do attract a lot of black people from NYC, but it still has that rust-belt stigma attached to it. Blacks who tend to do well up North live in mid-size cities like Pittsburgh, Buffalo, parts of Chicago, Minneapolis, and Columbus. The Midwest/inland Northeast seems to be the solution for Blacks who still want to live in the north with lower coast of living

Pretty much or just make enough to make it in the more expensive areas. Satellite areas near a major area seem to also be good places as well.

Just overall? In order. Not including SF/Oak or DC as “up north”

New York Philly Chicago Detroit Columbus Newark Boston Baltimore Indianapolis Cleveland New Haven Seattle Pittsburgh Cincy Buffalo Hartford Providence Milwaukee Minneapolis Portland

This weighs political influence, culture, safety, opportunity both white and blue collar, climate, media, outdoor activity, entertainment, schools, and physical environment.

Minneapolis and Pittsburgh are routinely called the worst places for blacks Z very different than more suburban Columbus. Chicago seems to be losing blacks and has got a long time. The most successful blacks live in the most successful metros. You can be comfortable in those cities but I find it hard to be leave they’re doing better than NYC Boston (or Philly) from an economic standpoint.

Prior to 2020 Minneapolis was a booming city. Blacks from Chicago would move to Minneapolis and make a better life for their children. Pittsburgh has problems but the city as a whole is solidly middle class. Most Black people I see from Pittsburgh grew up pretty normal (as in not being into street culture or being on government assistance).
