I really like this... Sausalito is ideal. However id swap out Nantucket for somewhere like Rockport MA or Newport RI.. a little closer to the big cities for hospital care/airport proximity and seasonal business.
Understandable, I am just a sucker for September on Nantucket. It’s after the tourists have mostly gone, things are winding down, and the weather is ideal. Summer would be hectic to say the least, but perhaps a house in Sconset for that time of year, so that one can mostly avoid the invasion of Chads that arrive like locust.
Like everyone else I've got two places and I will be sure I don't mention anything outside the US. The mod in this forum has zapped my entire replies in the past even when 90% of it was about the US.
So there are a lot of combinations I have considered, but if you're telling me that today I am retiring, I'd go: Summer - NYC, Winter - Miami.
Ski-in/ski-out condo at Vail/Beaver Creek for winter skiing (my girlfriend's daughter lives there so that's the easy one to pick)
Edgartown on Martha's Vineyard with a sailboat on a mooring.
A city apartment. Maybe Manhattan with a Central Park view.
Golden visa house in Portugal to get EU citizenship after 5 years. We like the little village of Salema on the Algarve. With citizenship, maybe move to Italy.
Hard to say considering I'm several decades away from retirement. I'm warming up to the idea of splitting time between two regions when I do settle down. Dealing with extreme cold and snowfall will eventually get old and I could see myself spending Winters in a place such as Charleston, SC. Maybe Central California.
When I get old I think I'd like to eventually return to Rochester, NY though and live out the rest of my Summers in my hometown, assuming it remains a decent place to live.
Also tempting would be a condo in New York City and/or Toronto, my two favorite big cities.
Mine would involve a lot of travel rather than a specific place to live. Right now I’d love a ski in ski out home to use most of the winter (can’t get the husband on board because he likes to switch mountains every few years). Other than that, a home near my children and a lot of travel.
