Besides vaccines and your wife not being harassed at work, what other aspects of "conservative" are you looking for? Like I said, some of those states are actually quite firearm friendly for example (NH and VT). Some areas, especially those that are seasonal have reasonable taxes (ie. Moultonborough, NH).
I do not recall the OP mentioning vaccines at all. Where is this coming from?

And it is true I have a disabled son. We had looked into Iowa.....again your correct! My wife old co-worker transferred there and loves it. Said it would be a great fit for our family. Unfortunatly I did more research and found Iowa's special education services severly lacking. So we continue to research.

We are looking to move because my wife has been bullied at her work because of our Conservitive beliefs. She never did or said anything to anyone. You can look online to find what party a person is registered to, and we are registered republicans. It's a long story, and we wish it could be "live and let live".

Another reason I am "daydreaming" is because Connecticut is soon to become a No Vaccine Exemption State. The last thread I had and mentioned this...it was taken down. Too divisive of a subject I guess. It's very personnal to us, and it has to do with our special needs son. If vaccines are mandated in CT, we have to get out....no daydreaming involved.
I had posted a response, it was removed.

Actually, the states with only medical vaccine exemptions are now CA, MS, WV, ME and NY. All the rest have philosophical and/or religious exemptions as well. ALL states have medical exemptions.

I was thinking this too. Michigan and Wisconsin are culturally quite conservative. Minnesota to a lesser extent. In November they are purple, a mix of those conservative social values and pro union attitudes makes those states toss ups. The types of democrats there often resemble old school “blue dog” dems anyway not the modern AOC radical socialist types we see today.

Make no mistake though, MI an WI are upper Midwest states, not northeast states. There is a significant cultural difference between the Midwest and the Northeast. Midwesterners are reserved and conservative in behavior, dress and attitude. Most of them have German or Scandinavian heritage. The land is much flatter and devoid of rock outcroppings. The climate is colder and snowy, more so than the northeast. The lakes are vast and beautiful, they are the center of the world up there. The Great Lakes are so vast they are more like inland seas. It’s not just the big lakes either, there are tens of thousands of inland lakes. Outdoor activities and water activities are huge up there. Northern parts of Wisconsin and Michigan are extremely rural. Parts of Michigan are as rural as you can find anywhere in the eastern two thirds of the US. Upper Michigan is largely utter wilderness. If you like that kind of thing then you should look into it.

Much of that applies to northern New England and Upstate NY as well, save for the areas that have been overrun with transplants anyway. Parts of MI and MN are within the Canadian Shield, with lots of outcroppings and such (similar to what you would find in the states east). Rural and wilderness, no place east of the Mississippi has more than Northern Maine. No great lakes, but the lakes are nevertheless endless. Vast woods, lakes and waterways that are seldom visited. On a trip through the Michigan UP, I saw HUGE similarities between the two places. Almost like long lost twins.

The western coast of Michigan sounds perfect for up you. I’d move there in a heartbeat but can’t make a living there.

I am surprised that New Hampshire and interior Maine are swinging so far left now.

Let me just say, as a person who has lived in Central, Inland Maine for a number of years now, that Central and Northern Inland Maine are NOT really getting any more blue. What has changed is the method of voting that was unwittingly passed for the 2018 election. Specifically, ranked-choice voting. This is where voters get a second vote if no candidate gets 50% of the vote. With the first round of votes tallied, the Republican Candidate, Bruce Poliquin (R) actually won the election over Jared Golden (D). However, due to third-party candidates, neither Poliquin or Golden were given the win as neither got 50% of the vote and the election went to the 2nd choice/round of votes. Of course none of the 3rd party candidates were conservative. So when those votes were taken and credited towards Golden or Poliquin, Golden ended up with the most votes (over 50%). Therefore if you are a blue voter, a Democrat in Maine, you can vote for a 3rd party and if that 3rd party does not win you can always recast your vote for the Democrats. Enough. This is a topic for another thread.

In the 2016 election, didn't Maine's 2nd Congressional District go red for the first time since 1988? I think there are plenty of conservatives in New England, but they exist outside of the more urban areas.

Also I would recommend being mindful of the "flavor" of conservatism you're seeking - Northeast conservatives are typically more right leaning on economic issues and libertarian on social issues, but in other parts of the US the conservatism has a more religion-influenced, socially conservative bend. Something to think about. I do think you would have luck in many areas of Northern New England however!

No, it had been red many times before. Flipping blue doesn't so much bother me as does the "WHY" of flipping blue. Ranked choice voting will assure that the 2nd district never again is red. They may as well just eliminate third parties as there is a snowball's chance in hell that they'll get elected and even if they're voted for their votes will ultimately be apportioned to either a democrat or republican with the former being the likely recipient. Conservative voters in the 2nd district, pretty much in the whole state of Maine, no longer have a representative in the house. And the blue wave is working feverishly to get rid of our only Republican Senator.

"In 2018 the district became the first in the United States to elect the ranked choice winner over the first-past-the-post winner, after a referendum in 2016 changed Maine's electoral system from the latter system to the former. Incumbent representative Bruce Poliquin won a plurality of the first preference votes. However, the second and third preferences from two independent candidates flowed overwhelmingly to Jared Golden, allowing him to win with 50.6% of the vote once all preferences were distributed."

If you see ranked-choice voting rearing its head in your state, district, be afraid......be very afraid.
