I guess I have to work on my question clarity.
In Kansas, they're right
Why can’t it be both? You’re limiting the fun of the thread by insisting on specific parameters. Most have never heard of half of these cities/counties, but far more people have experience trying to spell Albuquerque or Pittsburgh or even Schuylkill correctly then worrying about a correct spelling that isn’t recognized (and Schuylkill appears to meet the criteria of your thread).
Try getting all the Wisconsin places straight called Menominee County, Menomonee Falls, and Menomonie near Eau Claire. The second two ase spell-checked
My understanding is that technically aren't wrong because when Pittsburgh was incorporated the person that processed the paperwork also forgot the "h".
Cleveland, Ohio was founded by Moses Cleaveland. It is not named after Grover Cleveland. There are different theories as to what happened to the "a".
I'd suspect Rensselaer would throw off some people on how to properly spell it, as well! I know for Rensselaer and Schenectady, that I used to misspell both cities!

The one that I bolded is another good one, I used to too often misspell!
…and one other upstate New York city I always get flagged on is Rensselaer (pop. 9053), just outside of the state capital, Albany. It’s one of those weird Dutch names.

"Forgot" the h? Yeah, and I'll bet his dog routinely ate his homework too!
Went to college in Wisconsin. One of my professors who was from South Africa pronounced it Myook-one-Ay-go.
