I actually don't have Word on my laptop, so I'm just typing into a Google Doc, and it's recognizing place names as obscure as Skokomish (a CDP in Washington, pop. 617).
There was one time I was using Word in college and it didn't recognize the word "raccoons". I can't remember the context, there's no reason I would've written an essay about procyonid morphology or genetics, I just thought that was amusing.
How does one know what version? I'm using Firefox, and spell-check automatically activates in this CD entry field.
It accepts racoon as well as raccoon. Milwaukie is also accepted, because that is correct for the Oregon city, pop. 20,000, only a thirrd of Passaic. Which is now, inexplicably, accepted. Kinston NC is rejected, also 20,000.
