When I was a kid, this little house was a deli, squeezed in on a residential street. This was the place to get a Slush Puppy on a hot and humid July day!

Eventually, they moved down the block to this location which has a much more corner store look, but still smack in the middle of a residential area. Sadly, it looks like they closed.

I adored the corner pubs at side-street corners around my old neighborhood of Wicker Park in Chicago. Almost all opened in an era before zoning, when the area's population density was much higher (large families in small apartments meant pubs served as de facto living rooms), and they're steadily disappearing as liquor licenses turn over.
