It's been snowing on-and-off here in Denver for the last 22 hours. I shoveled once last night and once today at lunch. About 8" total. The trick is shoveling early and often. If you wait until the storm is done it could take you considerably longer than if you'd shoveled smaller amounts more often.

I much prefer the brightness of the snow cover when illuminated by a lower sun angle:

Vilas County, WI (46N latitude), in the Northwoods back in 2017. These are all my pictures.

I love it. Love looking out my window at it. Love playing with my kids in it. Love to ski. Don't love driving in it.

And I love that we have 3 other seasons.

Glad to see STL getting a sizable storm for a change, you've missed a number of decent snows for years.

If MN is anything like WI (it may be actually worse), it's miserable in summertime as well due to the bugs. Terrible summers and winters.

Mosquitoes and black flies are bad for a relatively short length of time in northern Wisconsin due to the fact that the frost free period of time is around two months in some cases. I've seen 28F in mid June and 28F in August in Vilas County.

To me, it's not winter without a few decent snow storms. From watching it fall, to going outside with the kids, snowball fights, snowmen, sledding... to the aftermath (hot cocoa, sitting by the fire)... yup, i'm so unhappy when i have a winter without snow (which does happen from time to time, even in NJ)

Also, need the below freezing temps for a few months to kill off all the bugs, which i absolutely HATE. And i'm not a fan of anything over 90 degrees. So there's that.

I like snow. I don’t like shoveling it or traveling in it. Aside from that, I think it’s fine. Even the cold, to a certain point, is fine if you have a sweater and decent jacket handy. Maybe some gloves.

People overrate hot weather, imo.
