By "non-national parks", I mean both state parks and federal protected areas that aren't considered national parks.

Some areas are likely/possible soon to be as they are "on the docket" for upgrades to a National Park. The most likely this year are:
Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park - Georgia
Chiricahua National Monument - Arizona
Rock Creek Park - Washington DC

Some parks that I think would be "nice" as NPs:
Cape Canaveral National Seashore - Florida
Apalachicola National Forest - Florida
Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge - North Carolina

Delaware Water Gap could become the first national park in Pennsylvania, New Jersey - USA TODAY

A recent article about an effort to turn the Delaware Water Gap into a national park. It's currently designated as a National Recreational Area. I think if they do make it a national park, the long term goal should be rerouting I-80 out of the bottom of the canyon: I-80 through the canyon

Looking at the visitation numbers, it's the 10th most visited park in the country: https://www.nps.gov/aboutus/visitation-numbers.htm

I would say Letchworth state park in NY. there's really not much like it anywhere else on the east coast but I don't know if it's good enough to be a national park.

Niagara Falls and some of the associated parks along the gorge could form a national park.

Maybe Mount Washington in NH and Mount Mitchell in NC?

Palo Duro Canyon in Texas.

Monument Valley. Except, it's owned by a Native tribe, is it not?

The Atchafalaya Basin is the largest swamp in the country and is home to the highest alligator population in the country. It could be extended down to the gulf to include the many barrier islands and marshes south of Morgan City.

Correct, the Navajo Nation already designate it as as Navajo Tribal Park.

I was just going to say this. It would be unique in that it has a lot of privately owned land within it. So, I'm wondering how that would work. Same for the Catskills.
