We all have our own interests and preferences. When we bought in our town (now a city) it was for the lack of city amenities, just one small strip mall, no big box stores, no theater or other entertainment venues, just quiet peaceful homes and woods.
The importance of neighboring cities was being within a reasonable distance of things we need and want. We selected this place because it's almost exactly equal distance between to cities that do have everything, including the freeways, noise and crime that goes with it.
In Oklahoma, that sounds like Stroud from being 50 miles away from both Oklahoma City and Tulsa with quick nearby access to the four lane toll road, I-44, that goes to those two cities. Stroud is still a little town hardly able to grow.

Pretty important for me. Granted I live in Lynchburg, VA so it's nothing special here. Even though I live downtown and there is much more stuff going on downtown than a few years ago for my own sanity it is great to be able to walk to the Amtrak station about 20 minutes away by foot and take the NE Regional train to Charlottesville an hour away for a day trip (which I do every month or so) and weekend trips up to DC, Baltimore, Philly, and NYC 3 - 7 hours away throughout the year (not a fan of driving long distances or flying). Obviously if I lived in a city like Minneapolis or Denver this would matter less, but I do like the convenience of rail travel where I live (relatively speaking in the US context) and the amenities places like DC has to offer nearby without actually having to live there.
