This is pretty good though I consider most of Florida to be deep south.

Agree, Florida is deep south with the exception of the Miami metro area which is influenced by Latin American culture.

SW Coast (Fort Myers/Naples etc.) is not really that "south" but only due to the fact that they're build up to house all those retirees from the north.

But yeah, even as far south as the area near Lake Okeechobee is essentially deep south.

East Texas should be on the list somewhere...culturally it's no different than Arkansas or Louisiana.

Out of reps for you. Agree. And I don't think ETX and Florida residents would disagree with you. They're deep south.

It's still southern. The northeasterners that move here are are not gonna change its dileneation. Just like southerners moving to the Northeastern cities didn't change theirs.

I don’t understand how you can talk about his NC isn’t the south because the demographics are different than in 1970. Being a destination for northern transplants is a southern city thing. Like not many Detroiters in New England like there is in Tennessee. (Not the mention the Great migration permanently altered like Cleveland or Milwaukee which are still northern)

I’d also argue that states like CT, NJ and MA have seen the most dramatic demographic changes in the last couple generations in America. But Mass isn’t “not New England” because it’s demographics have diverged from NH

Right. Same scenario, a lot of Californians moving into your state doesn't mean you're California.

It is in the south regardless of any perceptions of change or cultural or political alignment. The south is not shrinking — it is the same size as always.

Look at a map. It doesn't get any farther south than FL!

Is NC southern?
Is this really a question?

NC surely is southern.
If going by a couple city's you can ask the same about GA because of Atlanta. But neither takes away that the vast majority of the state is of pure southern culture, complete with the accents. And, of course, geographically kt is as well.

Now, MD, I can understand the question as it never seceded, is right smack in the middle, and the city's that give it its rep comprise a large population because it is a small state.

Mid-Atlantic =
DE=Pure northeast around Wilmington blending slightly into the southeast in interior slower lower.
MD=Pure Mid-Atlantic as it has a blend of the whole east coast (northern DC suburbs into northern Balt suburbs are more northeastern and southern MD and the eastern shore are more southern)
VA=Pure southern blending slightly into the northeast in the NOVA area

NC? Again, why is this even a question? Southern culture, southern accents, southern cooking? Yep! Southern!
