This thread made me curious enough to do a Google search and what came up is that the most beautiful US lake is Santeetlah Lake, North Carolina. I am going to have to check it out next spring since it is only 2 hours away but I will be shocked if I find it more beautiful than Lake Tahoe.
Location: northern Vermont - previously NM, WA, & MA

Most scenic I've seen
Lake Champlain NY/VT
Lake Willoughby VT
Moosehead Lake, Maine
Lake Tahoe
Priest Lake, Idaho
Saguaro Lake, AZ
I'd be interested in seeing more of the Great Lakes shoreline (north shore of Superior in Minnesota, UP of Michigan, Mackinac Island, Sleeping Bear Dunes).
I love Lake Champlain, but Lake Willoughby is my favorite in Vermont. I'd comfortably place it on my "most beautiful" list (and Lake Champlain would probably be there too).
I'd also add:
Lake Tahoe
Crater Lake
Moosehead Lake
Lake Powell
Honorable mention to Lake Winnipesaukee which is more developed than the lakes above (well, except for Tahoe) so it's not as purely naturally beautiful. But I love the juxtaposition of the mountains, little rocky islands, and dense green forest with the old lake houses, boat houses, and cottages gives it a unique feel and its own brand of human-influenced beauty.
Lake Wappapello and Reelfoot Lake are my favorites.
