I live next to Lake Chelan...nah. Nice lake though.

Tahoe, Crater Lake, Coeur d'Alene, Priest, Pend O"Reille, Powell.

That is for the big lakes. I might throw Yellowstone into the mix as well.

The Pot-hole Lakes of the Eastern Dakotas. Thousands on tiny wildlife refuges that farmers plowed around. Wetlands teeming with undisturbed bird colonies, frogs, turtles. As small a town building lot, up to several acres. Often, rural roads swerve around or cut across them, for close viewing. A few dozen larger one are protected as national wildlife refuges. Just drive a mile or two on any gravel road. One of America's unknown natural treasures.

Which part? I prefer the northern end of the lake, near Stehekin.

I think the Finger Lakes in New York are underrated. They remind me of a poor mans version of Scottish Lochs, because the mountains are not as high, but it's very nice rolling terrain and calming.

Any of the lakes near Mammoth Lakes, CA: such as Twin Lakes and Convict Lake.

Saint Mary Lake in Montana is my favorite overall. Diablo Lake in Washington is another great one.

Lake Jocassee in South Carolina is probably the best in the eastern US.
