This honestly confuses me. Annapolis and Gibson Island are only about 5 or 6 miles apart, as the crow flies. If you can't stand Annapolis winters, how would Gibson Island's be any different? Also, there are no schools on Gibson Island; or maybe you mean you'd like to live there and teach at a nearby "mainland" school? If it's a waterfront community you're looking for, maybe Severna Park might be worth checking out. Upper income community with highly rated schools. I don't live there so I don't know how close-knit it may be.
I was wondering the same, but you beat me to it. I lived in Severna Park in another life, hung out in Pasadena and worked in Annapolis. It has changed a lot over the years but still my favorite part of that side of the state. But the eastern half is more fitting for me and my lifestyle, so I crossed that bridge a long time ago.
QUOTE=lostgirl23;64652211]They aren't that similar. Summers on Gibson Island on indescribable. It's the culture that's different not the location.[/quote]
But you mentioned the cold. In that, they are exactly the same.
Yes, Gibson Island, being in Passadena, is a more conservative place which, looking at your list, sounds like you don't want.
Weather wise in MD, the Chesapeake affects it a lot. Cross that bridge to the eastern shore (the more conservative part of the state) and the weather improves. Easton (more liberal than the surrounding areas, picturesque, quaint, with many of the things you would want) to Cambridge seems to be where the snow line typically ends. I live in Ocean City and we hardly get any snow.
Williamsburg has historical architecture and hip modern scene. Schools are above average but not super elite. Couple of the elementary schools rated as 9s. The adults are highly educated though. Relatively quite safe. I'd call it one of the best small communities near the ocean.
Instead of searching for perfect, could pick a spot that is "pretty good", then measure other places as better or not. Find a string of betters til you run out of betters.
Got a place immediately, obviously better for you than Williamsburg VA? What is it? Use it as the comparison reference til you find somewhere better.
OP:
Cape Cod was a great suggestion. I might look into that more.
Have been to CHS and it's charming, but I can't stand the culture or the people.
Will look into the Eastern Shore areas. Not sure if that culture will win me over either. I'm more "crunchy" as they say and also when I think of MD small towns, I imagine an older crowd.
I will look at Williamsburg again but it reminds me of a northern CHS. Cultural a bad fit. I haven't been a fan of the DMV.

Los Gatos CA, mentioned earlier, has 6 schools rated 10, 5 being elementary schools. 73% voted Democratic in last presidential election. Low property crime, very low violent crime. 25 miles or so to Santa Cruz. Average income is 230% of national average.
