Wasn't there supposed to be a separate thread for immigration issues?

Anyway, as long as there are poor, teeming masses of the desperate to our south, they will risk life and limb to get here. We could work harder to seal our borders. We could work with the Mexican government toward ending the entrenched corruption which goes a long way toward impoverishing its citizens. We could do nothing and risk there being a civil war down there with a Chavez/Castro leader taking control.

Many different problems and no single solution.

Thanks for the apology, I did not take it personally, your apology is very thoughtful and sincere and I appreciate it.

Default Blame the immigrants

It seems to me that this thread started out equally on an economic note, but forged into immigration. Could it be because of a tendency to dump all of CA's problems on immigrants?

Of course, Crea8. Every state needs its scapegoats. New York has New Jerseyeans, CT has New Yorkers (actually, include the entire northeast), New Hampshire has Bostonians, and the entire west loves to hate California. It's only fair that Californians have a scapegoat too.

Illogical, alll the way around.

Default It's not a matter of support

It's not so much a matter of supporting the world; it's a matter of dealing with a real-life problem on the ground right here and now.

Which, by what I am reading means supporting them with health care ,education, welfare, food stamps, loans for housing, social security and on and on and on. WHY? Cut them off. No jobs, no reason to be here, no services. It is easy to do to our own, why not the people that dont belong here?

Ok, but the next time you're MUGGED by an illegal immigrant so desperate for food that he resorts to crime, remember your words. The next time you're in line at the supermarket and an illegal immigrant in line with you coughs up blood from his TB and you catch it, remember your words. What have you gained by "cutting them off"? It doesn't solve the problem, and makes is worse -- FOR YOU!

Illegal immigration is a problem, of course. For the future, toughen the borders all you will. But for now, you have a population of near 20 million here illegally. What about them? That's what we're talking about!

As for "no jobs," blame the AMERICANS who hire illegals -- sometimes ILLEGALLY hire illegals! By that same token, blame yourself if you like low-priced produce and cheap fast food.
