Out of those choices, Savannah. It's a beautiful city, though more for tourism rather than living. But you have the beach about a 20-30 drive to Tybee Island.
I'm from WI, so Madison would be an easy answer for me.
However, if I was a blank slate and had never lived in any of these states before, I would pick Savannah. AMAZING architecture, cool historical culture, and much milder winters (WI winters scare residents badly enough - I can only imagine how much they'd terrify newcomers!).
Plano, TX totally doesn't fit. Its a suburb of Dallas, while the other cities listed have self-contained economies. I would probably choose Plano just for the convenience of having Dallas nearby.
I currently live in Little Rock, a city nobody seems to have anything good to say about on this forum. It isn't half as bad as its reputation. However the one thing that really annoys me is all the white flight to the suburbs. Most transplants who move here (as well as people from rural Arkansas looking to escape racial diversity) commute 30-60 miles because they are so afraid to live in Little Rock. The 1994 HBO documentary among other trivial things has permanently scarred this city's image. The crime is very localized and isn't a problem in much of the city.
I'm not a northerner so I wouldn't live in Madison.
I have to agree with you about Little Rock. My brother and his family lived in Little Rock for a few years and were pleasantly surprised by how much they liked it. They lived in the Pulaski Heights neighborhood which is an old, established, very walkable neighborhood in town. Little Rock has some nice neighborhoods, nice parks, a neat farmers market downtown, and quite a few things to do. And almost zero traffic.
I must say I love Baton Rouge to bits and pieces. There's so much diversity and something can be found for everybody here, not to mention that we have the best food out of everybody on the list. It's popular with older folks (such as myself lol) as well as the younger crowd and even the ones in between. Yes, there is a high crime rate but crime is very much localized to one part of the city that nobody really has any reason to go to unless they live there. Madison is nice, too, but I would think it would get way too cold in the winter. I couldn't handle that cold. Savannah is beautiful and cultural but there is too much tourism. Little Rock is Little Rock, you either love it or you hate it. It offers an acceptable amount of entertainment options, but unfortunately it doesn't really get the respect it deserves. Plano...GAG!
It's so cold in Madison, I just don't get the appeal.
it's a beautiful , progressive, college town. and, i personally like snow. why is that so hard to understand?
