I get it: the emergence of air conditioning has definitely reshaped our population migration patterns. We now have technology that is able to make our winters more tolerable, through natural gas pipeline distribution, oil tanks, wood burning, or propane. We also have air conditioning to make our summers more tolerable. The fact remains, with all these technologies in place, more are still opting to go south than north. Can we then conclude that one is more inclined to tolerate a 105 degree June day than a -10 degree January day? The 'shoulder seasons': does this mean that one feels more drawn to an 80 degree day in Georgia during the middle of October, versus a 50 degree day in Connecticut? Probably.
Definitely too hot, heat you can't escape. And it's basically asking would you rather burn to death or freeze to death? Simple answer to that IMO.
You're using 2 extremes. No climate on earth is hot enough to burn to death. You need fire to burn to death. But there are plenty of climates on earth that are cold enough to freeze to death. The ironic part is you're probably more likely to burn to death in a cold climate (fireplaces).
OK maybe somebody will not literally burn to death, but they can develop Heat Stress or become Hyperthermic and die from heat. All it takes is a quick Google search to see that MD has already had 6 heat related deaths this summer.
OMG. I live in duluth, mn. It rarely gets over 80 degrees. its usually a cool 65 in the summer here. Its 85 today. HOLY COW. You should hear the people acting like it's a huge heat wave... It's like settle down you swedes, it'll be -25 in 3 months, get over it.
I enjoy a weather that is too cold more, but weather that is too hot is probably better for me. Why? Because in cold weather it makes me want to stay in the house and eat all day...therefore I gain weight in the winter. In too hot weather, i'm usually outside jogging and sweating like crazy, therefore I lose weight.
Hot and humid like houston in summer is worse than hot and dry like arizona. I've stayed in both places for an extended period.
Cold like boston is better than cold like alaska.
Either extreme is difficult.
Perfect weather is usually 70-80s with a nice breeze. However, nothing beats winters first snow, and crisp autumn leaves. Which is why I love the northeast, even though I may leave one day.
