I'm pretty fascinated by enclave cities and exclave cities. Are there any cities in the U.S. that have exclaves--a section of city that is not physically adjacent to the rest of the city?
Enclaves and near-enclaves are easier to pinpoint. Here are a couple of examples of cities/villages completely surrounded by another city. Any others?:
-Bexley, Ohio (completely surrounded by Columbus)
-Thiensville, Wisconsin (completely surrounded by Mequon)
Some near-enclaves, as far as I can tell on maps (is there a technical term for these places?):
-Hamtramck and Highland Park, Michigan (next to each other, but completely surrounded by Detroit)
-University Park and Highland Park, Texas (next to each other, but completely surrounded by Dallas)
-Bellaire and West University Place, Texas (next to each other, but completely surrounded by Houston)
-Santa Monica, California (surrounded on three sides by LA; the ocean on the fourth side)
In Los Angeles County the small city of San Fernando is totally surrounded by the city of Los Angeles. I was going to say Beverly Hills, but then I forgot that West Hollywood is a separate city and touches part of Beverly Hills. The unincoporated community of Marina del Rey on the Westwide is totally surrounded by Los Angeles also, but it isn't its own city government.
In the southern half of the county, the city of Signal Hill is totally surrounded by Long Beach, CA.
For an exclave, the city of Rolling Hills Estates on the Palos Verdes Peninsula has a portion that is disconnected and totally surrounded by the city of Rancho Palos Verdes.
Down in Orange County, the city of Villa Park with only about 6,000 affluent residents is totally surrounded by the city of Orange and is an enclave.

Some more examples of enclaves and near-enclaves in the Dallas-Fort Worth Area:
-Dalworthington Gardens and Pantego (next to each other, but completely surrounded by Arlington)
-Cockrell Hill (completely surrounded by Dallas)
-Edgecliff Village (completely surrounded by Fort Worth)
Kentucky has an exclave. There is a tiny nub in the southwest corner that does not touch the bigger part of Kentucky. The river cuts it off from the rest of the state.
Indianapolis has three enclaves thanks to consolidation in 1970:

A near exclave would be the part of Chicago that includes O'Hare Airport. It is connected to the rest of Chicago by a tiny strip of land. Another example MIGHT be Tampa, with the section called New Tampa almost disconnected from the rest of Tampa.
