Its called, the classy city of NY, or lack thereof, cannot stand the fact that Los Angeles is as important, if not more, nationwide as well as internationally. As well as the fact that they cannot stand to hear people say they'd rather not live in an urban metropolis.
While New York is a cool city, Id rather not have to pay $2,000+ on a one bedroom apartment that I will never become the owner of. Id rather not live in a downtown area where I live under some other buildings' shadow half the day. An area where the women have a "sexy" white pasty skin to them. Id rather not live in an area where 20+ years ago, the majority of the century, drugs controlled the streets as well as organized crime, and now that things are better people thumb their noses at cities with crime problems.
This thread needs to be locked already. All its filled with is stereotypical jerks who look at Los Angeles with tunnel vision. Ignore the fact that Los Angeles still has more beautiful quiet areas than not. Talk all your crap and make yourself feel better and ignore the fact that Los Angeles is destined to become the most populous city in the country. The fact that Los Angeles is half New York City's age, yet people compare the two on an equal level. Oh what a feeling it will be to call you #2!
The rest of the world is not happy, the rest of America is, which is quite sad. Americans are softies nowadays. In general, the only real Americans left are those loyal to New York, Boston, Philly, DC, Chicago, Jersey, and the rust belt Midwest. The rest, sorry to say, are phonies. Plastic.
Wall Street is going nowhere, whether our economy stays strong or not, Wall Street will always house the financial power of this country.
Not only is Broadway dying down, but Hollywood is too. Film technology is enabling films to be made in cities with harsher climates such as New York, Chicago, Miami, Boston, etc. Plus, many of our old abandoned warehouses and piers are now being transformed into film studios.
Believe me, New York has a lot more to be worried about than whether or not Hollywood is making more films than us. The rest of the world and America is glad to let you have that.

Hey Hey Hey! Let's all sit back and take a deep breath! Now, this thread is called Can any U.S. city really compare to Los Angeles, California? Now, I say 'nay'. BUT, there are others who say that L. A. is craptastic. Those people should receive a pass because, well, they're jealous. And jealousy can do strange things to a person's psyche.It can make them say crazy things like "L. A.'s GMP isn't right there with new york on a global scale, #3 to new york's #2." They will say things like "No one cares about Entertainment anymore" or "L. A. is a one industry town." Jealousy can do a lot. Los Angeles will twy to build wots and wots ob buildings in the future, you'll see! We'll show yas. So we can be important wike Chicago (Have you heard from them lately?) Atlanta (Hmmmm, don't know what to say here..) Houston (Readers' Digest said back in '74 that Los Angeles should "move over"! Still waiting..) Miami (I kinda like C.S.I. Miami?) D.C. (Barney Frank keeps yelling to mask his guilt. Have a rip off deal yet?) Philly (Is your real tall skyskwaper done? It's either that, or Rocky, or cheesesteaks.) When a Los Angeles factory or studio or aerospace plant fails, when a Vegas casino fails, these businesses aren't bailed out. When your small business fails or you can't pay your mortgage for whatever reason, you're out on the street. When the companies America invests their trust in to manage their money fail, that's different. They take the losses for themselves, then ask you to bail them out. After that, they'll say it wasn't enough and ask for more. They'll cry, like Paulson did, because they want free money. That's new york! There's a reason why towers keep popping up there and NOT where you are. The most freeloading city in the free world. This is the reason why I don't respect it. Like I said earlier, if I were in new york, I wouldn't be shooting off my mouth right about now.See for just once if you can keep it shut. By the way, FutureCop is darned entertaining
Are you talking about Los Angeles, Los Angeles county, Greater Los Angeles, or Greater Los Angeles plus the Inland Empire?
I suppose it really doesn't matter.
I think that LA is perhaps the most diverse cityscape (although not the most diverse city). You have the ghettos of South LA, the barrios of East LA, the trendy areas of Hollywood, the skyscrapers of Downtown, the bland middle class suburban areas of the Valley, the mansions of West Los Angeles, and beach areas like Venice.
You cannot say one city or another is like Los Angeles. You'd have to say one region or one neighborhood looks like it could be in *whatever city*. I mean you can't really think of a city that has an equal to Reseda, Van Nuys, Bel Air, East Hollywood, Watts, Boyle Heights, Venice, Playa del Rey, and Pacoima. LA is too varied in that regard.
Just picture 8 million people just like FutureCop and you have NYC. This is exactly why I could NEVER live there.

I think New Yawkas are under the impression that every city, everybody vibes to be like them. HELL NO! If Los Angeles were to ever turn into anything reminiscant of New York, skyscrapers galore, I would honestly get the F out! I dont think anyone in Los Angeles wants it to be like New York.
I wonder what is the deal with NY'ers and their complete obsession with downing Los Angeles. I think part of the reason stems around jealousy and fear.
Fear because, NY'ers seem to be proud that they have the largest population, and have a bigger urban area than every other city. Yet Los Angeles will someday pass NY in population, which may require downtown LA to become as dense as NY.
Jealousy since Los Angeles seems to capture the nations attention more than New York. When I watch national news such as CNN and FoxNews, they seem to pay as much attention to whats going in in LA than New York, - "Economy going down the gutter? Lets ask Los Angelinos on how they're coping with it." During the weather forecasts I never hear that New York is having a beautiful day. LA - having a gorgeous day.
During the NBA finals and World Series, the games just so happen to be scheduled at a convenient 7pm for Los Angeles so we can be in bed by midnight for sure. New Yorkers, you can stay up till 2am!
Los Angeles has held the olympics twice already, and are likely to get a third before New York even gets its first.
I point out to jealousy because Los Angeles is still a relatively young age compared to New York, and people already put it up with New York in terms of importance. And this all happened within the last 30 years!

Telling yourself that Los Angeles is anywhere near New York doesn't make it true.
