Here it goes, it's hard to put them in order after California and New York, but here is what rounds out the top 10:
1. California - most populated, most powerful economy, could be it's own country
2. New York - mainly because of New York City, most powerful city in America and financial capital
3. Texas - strong economy mainly due to oil and agriculture
4. Florida - also a strong economy, mainly due to tourism and abunduce of large cities
5. Illinois - mainly because of Chicago
6. Georgia - mainly because of Atlanta, a powerful economic center with numerous company HQ's, and airport which is now the hub for the world's largest airline
7. Michigan - mainly because of the auto industry (not sure how much longer that will last)
8. Massechusettes - mainly because of Boston, a strong technology center. Also strong politically (which can be good or bad), a lot of big name politicians such as Ted Kennedy and John Kerry.
9. Washington - Seattle with a lot of major companies (Microsoft, Boeing, Starbucks, etc.)
10. Toss up between Ohio, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Minnesota, or Hawaii

Hard to put in order after NY and CA???? I guess TX is just average compared to those states....
California is easily number one and pretty much dominates everyone else. Cali has the 9th (or is it 10th) largest economy in the WORLD, with the United States number 1 of course.
Well I believe Texas has the 11th largest economy. I would say Texas is higher than New York. It's a silly argument though. Just be glad we have some powerful economies in one country.
Texas is a growing economy and will continue to grow. California is definitely a state that has power political, economically, and in population. New York is still powerful but is more of a mature market.
New York
California
Illinois
Massachusetts
Connecticut
Delaware
Washington
Minnesota
Wisconsin
New Jersey
