What state gets all the spotlight when someone out of our country thinks of the U.S ?

California.

If this were asking what city the international community thinks of the most, then I would go with New York, no question. But for state, I definitely have to go with California. No state has a presence like that one.

Definitely California. The first place a foreigner probably thinks of is New York City, but the first state is California.
