I agree with this, but with the addition of LA.
There are, of course, many other amazing museums located in other cities, too. Anyone into historic house museums would love Newport, RI, for example. The biggest cities are going to have the most because of sheer size, which in terms of options translates to "best." But if you're looking at individual museums, some of the best (depending on interests and genre) are in smaller cities.

Interesting, I admit that I have not been to any Art Museum in DC (have only lived here for 3 months); I knew the National Art Gallary was one of the best in the country, but didn't think it was on the same level as The Met.
^^ Wow, I had no idea Boston's MFA would rank so high! DC and NYC dominate that list though...it's impressive that those two compose 5 of the top 10 art museums in the country.
