It gets very cold in Oklahoma, definitely below 32F.

I had originally said Arizona, but land in Arizona is more expensive than $1,000/acre. Maybe West Texas?

Ha, that's one of the more interesting questions I've read in a while. I have a US map nearby and went through the criteria one by one. Some thoughts:

- Tennessee, Arkansas, and Oklahoma might be your best bets. However, Tennessee and Arkansas do get a fairly decent amount of rainfall each year. They're definitely not arid climates, if that's what you're looking for. And as some has suggested, they all do drop below freezing in the winter, though if you're a Canadian, I *hardly* think you'll find them too intolerable climate-wise. All three have a humid subtropical climate, with the exception of far-west Oklahoma which is more of an arid plains/steppe climate.

- Arizona might also be a very good fit, BUT, the conservatism in that state is really not Bible Belt Christianity - it's more libertarian, small government conservatism and is more socially moderate than socially conservative in my opinion. That state is also increasingly diverse, if you have a problem with diversity, but I wouldn't really call most of it "cosmopolitan." Parts of rural Nevada, rural New Mexico, and West Texas might also fit this mold.

Best of luck!

Come on Texas people! Cough up some specific suggestions. You know that there are places in Texas that fit this bill. They won't be Dallas, Austin, Houston or San Antonio but I know that they are out there.
It has to be somewhere in West Texas but not too far North and certainly somewhere that's not near a larger city. What about Midland? Does that one fit the bill?

Somewhere in Texas. Maybe a Dallas suburb? Waco? Killeen? That place above Dallas?
I would have said Houston but the rain and hurricanes knocked that out.

Actually somewhere within an hour or so of San Antonio might just fit the bill.

I definitely agree with you that West Texas is probably the one place that meets all of the OP's criteria.

Oh, I don't have the answer to "the question"; I'm looking for some input regarding what would fit the criteria.

Thanks for the suggestions so far everyone. I've had Amarillo, TX and West Texas spots pitched to me before but it doesn't fit the open carry requirement. It's my understanding that Texas is a concealed carry with permit state. I'll certainly consider it though, especially with West Texas' land prices.
