The whole Philly discussion has been done and redone for many pages earlier in the thread. no need to redo it again. If people don't list Philly higher in their personal top ten what's it to ya?

Wow, Cambridge and Boston?
And Cambridge ahead?

I thought even though they asked for top 1 cities it was assumed the op mentioned Metros.

I think if it is by city alone some cities such as ATL, Seattle, Miami and SF would be off my list. Those cities are above average on their own but powerhouses with their metro. I don't think Boston or Cambridge alone would make it on my list though, but the combination of the History in Boston and the science and education from both they make it, but separate??? not for me.

I like how your list is unconventional though. You hit some of my favorite cities in the US

My personal Top 11 list (couldn't narrow it down to ten b/c the last few are pretty interchangeable) with spaces to show groups. My list is obviously subjective, but I tried to take into account size, economic output, cultural influence, etc. This is metro areas, not "cities" proper.

1. New York

2. Los Angeles
3. Chicago
4. Washington, DC (this one could be higher depending on how you want to weigh the political power).

5. San Francisco (this is including the entire Bay area w/ Oakland, San Jose, etc).

6. Boston
7. Houston
8. Philly
9. Dallas
10. Atlanta
11. Miami

Honorable mentions to Detroit and Seattle.

Omg I think every thread I've read that you posted in, you always mention San Jose even if it has nothing to do with it.
