I just read an article from a travel writer listing the most overated tourist attractions. Among them he listed The Alamo, Bourbon St. and Hollywood. I would like to hear your opinion on the writer's list or places you think should be on the list.

Times Square...it's probably fun the first time for tourists to see all the lights, but it gets old fast.

I'll agree with Times Square and Bourbon Street...and add Printer's Alley in Nashville.

I would really rather watch the lovely grass grow than go to Bourbon St.

The Georgia Aquarium.

I mean, it's ok. But they tout it as being "the worlds largest Aquarium". Technically it is, as it has 8 million gallons of water in the tanks (more coming as well), so it has more WATER than any other Aquarium in the world. But the facility itself isn't the largest, and many of the smaller exhibits weren't designed well in terms of interactive displays, smaller viewing ports, poor crowd flow control, etc etc. It still draws huge crowds and most folks still enjoy it overall, but I have heard a lot of people say it wasn't quite what they expected in terms of "hype vs reality".

I've also heard the same about the World of Coke museum which is actually next door to the Aquarium, but I haven't been there yet, so won't comment on personal experience with that one yet.

Boldt Castle in NY's Thousand Islands, usually the centerpiece stop of any boat tour of the islands. The boat tour is worth doing, but at the end they stop at Boldt Castle and then attempt to fill your head with a lot of B.S. about the house's "romantic" past. The island and outside of the mansion are lovely, but going inside is a waste of time. Since the house was never finished on the inside, they are trying to "recreate" it with a fake "Victorian" interior (it looks like a McMansion frankly) and then upstairs you will be treated to walls full of graffiti.

The "story" they sell you about the mansion is not true: the guy's wife ASKED to have the house built, he was broke, and when she died he probably was relieved to get to stop work on the project.

Also, Zavikon Island, which the tour operators like to tell you is half in Canada and half in America, is actually all in Canada. The owners of the island just fly an American flag on one side to keep up the appearances.

Times Square, I have been to NYC more times than I can remember so maybe that is why I think that away, but I do what ever I can to avoid it.

I wouldn't say Times Square is overrated, annoying but not overrated, based on what businesses, restaurants tourist museums, store, entertainment venues, and events that are in Time Square.
