Thanks for all the replies so far guys! To answer a couple of questions. The weather is not a big issue although "cold" all year long is not what I prefer. I understand that the South is more like Spain, hot in summer(humid) mild in winter(gets colder with elevation) and the west is cold in the winter and hot in the summer but there's dry air so it doesn't feel that hot/cold.
Eventually I would need a job but it's not that important at the moment.

Montana generally has a hot short summer, the other seasons can be winter-like and very unpredictable. I'm in north-central Montana and we have snow on the ground right now. You may not like it here at all, we had temps in some towns last winter that dipped lower than 35 degrees below zero on the Fahrenheit scale. I could barely start my rig even with a block heater and when I did get the engine running The rig wouldn't go because the gearbox oil was as stiff as clay. So we walked for groceries in that weather, it was rough and we're only a block and a half from the store.
Hi Marc, the area I think you'd really enjoy is the "Texas Hill Country". It has everything you're looking for, great local music (country), tons of horses and places to ride, and great people who will welcome you with open arms (as long as you're not out to try and CHANGE their way of life). We are in Harper, just out the little German town of Fredericksburg. Their Oktoberfest is a hoot. The schools are great, we're only an hour from the BIG city of San Antonio, but have local events each and every weekend to enjoy. If you have any questions, feel free to write me at (harperhouse at live.com) (please put the symbol @ in place of the word in my address).
Hey again, forgot to mention that our HOT isn't humid, just dry, warm heat. We really love the weather here. it gets nice in the winter, beautiful in spring and fall!
