Definitely Maine.

However, I've never been to CA or Alaska so I'd add an * to my claim for Maine.

Northern NH and VT are gorgeous.
Parts of PA and upstate NY are beautiful as well.

I fell in love with California when I visited out there. So much diversity people and landscape wise. I also like Colorado. The mountains out there are so different from the Appalachians. Majestic is the way to describe it.

On the East Coast, Virginia is my favorite state. It's probably the most prosperous southern state and it isn't on the bottom of the national lists.

Although Illinois is sort of boring to drive through, it seems very clean and a prosperous All-American type of place.

Yes, the central part of the state is flatter than a pancake, but there are still hidden gems that youd never know existed, right off the highway (ie Starved Rock SP and Matthiessen SP). Southern and NW Illinois are gorgeous IMO.

Cali is very nice too, I agree 100%. Now if they could just get rid of the illegals, lower the housing prices and find a way to starve off the San Andreas....

Never been to the states yet, but at this moment, I'm leaning towards Alaska...(I will probably fall over if I lean a little bit more to the side)

There's nothing like stepping out of your house and seeing Mt. Rainier looming in the distance. You can see the details of each crag and cliff from 50 miles away on clear days. Washington State wins the natural beauty contest by a mile, then Oregon, and then NC ...

Based on what?

For beauty, I like West Virginia and Maine. Always wanted to see Montana, Idaho and Alaska for the same reason.
