Yes, well you mentioned in your requirements 'safe' -- some of those suggestions listed I would hardly call 'safe' as far as crime....
One site I have found useful in comparing cities to one another

You can type in the town (or zip code) and it will tell you the violent crime and property crime.....

Round Rock/Austin is one of the safest cities in the US and San Antonio is ok too

Thank you all! We have been living in Tacoma WA (not by choice) and are in the final stages of making the move to somewhere warmer.... I am thinking somewhere in TX may just do the job!
