Very serious about this future move. I am looking for a city that I can potentially call a permanent home.

We need outdoor activities for all ages.
I'm leaning toward warm areas.
We've decided we would ideally like trees, sunshine and water.
I need a great job-career type market (in normal economy).

No, we are not looking for a retirement area and
we are not looking for an "avg. age 33" area.

Lets say a primary population between 37 and 60.

Reasonable housing per national average.
Professional, educated, families and singles but also a bit of fun population.

One match your city type source suggested many places in HI and Calif, a few in FL and a few in SC and GA.
Of course, HI and Calif have very high national avg. housing cost.

We might consider Colorado. Maybe.

Ideas?

What about:
Jacksonville, FL was suggested by a few websites. Is there a suburb or area that is the best part of town?

Thanks for your help!

Jacksonville is an excellent option. Look to the south of Jacksonville at towns like Ponte Vedre Beach and St Augustine. Housing prices are a bargain compared to other areas you're considering. The job market is about average normally. Ponte Vedre and St Augustine (north end...check out World Golf Village) will have a demographic similar to yourself.

Relocation Information - Ponte Vedra Beach Chamber of Commerce (http://www.pontevedrachamber.org/relocation/index.cfm - broken link)
World Golf Village Real Estate - A Florida Golf Community - Jacksonville and St. Augustine

Jacksonville isn't exactly a fun population.

Look into the pacific NW.

They're like 3 hours from the beach.

What's your budget? Are you looking to own or rent?

Considering Colorado and Jacksonville must means you have a wide range of options. If a mild climate is very important I'd suggest Wilmington (NC) or Myrtle Beach.
Going by the rest of your criteria, Denver and Salt Lake City seem like they'd fit the bill.
