The only time I've ever seen a deer on Long island was when I was at Robert moses beach, lol. That's a totally separate island about 40 miles outside the city that has woods and stuff, outside of the beach.

On Long Island, the furthest west White-Tailed Deer are found (not counting Fire Island) is at Hecksher & Connetquot River State Parks, about 50 miles from Manhattan. They are pretty common there and also of course on Fire Island because there is so little hunting.
Someone asked --- we do have foxes but no bears. We have most of the smaller animals like raccoons and oppossums, both of which I have seen in my yard at night. I am happy to say we have no coyotes, although one was found on the South Shore of Queens recently.
Of course the big thing on a large island is going to be the marine life. We have plenty of waterfowl and other birds like Ospreys. We also have several kinds of seals.
