On Long island, we don't have nearly as many chains as most places. They have these restaurants in NJ and CT, but not in the city and LI. So that's why I'm guessing we get the commercials. So, what places do you see advertised on tv that you don't have? Here's my list:

Chick-fil-a chicken sandwiches are good, but that's about it. Never tried Sonic or Cici's though. Never heard of Cici's anyway, lol.
I'm in Rochester..... But the chic filet thing could be because of the chic filet bowl because I don't recall seeing ads for them during any other time than college bowl season.
