If people are paying it, the price is right. If no one is riding in the lanes at $7, they are charging too much.

This is the FUTURE of freeways in Georgia, congestion pricing. Get used to it!
Looks like people are paying it too.

BTW...I wholeheartedly endorse this type of usage fee over the poorly planned TSPLOST which would have taxed me to pay for projects in areas of Atlanta that are of zero benefit to me.

If you want to improve transportation in Gwinnett, tax the Gwinetians, not those of us over in Cobb. Same goes for us. Clayton should not have to pay for a road widening project on Windy Hill.

Does Gwinetian rhyme with Venetian?

If this is the case, then more transit might be looking brighter everyday for metro Atlanta in the future.

Hopefully. Maybe a portion of all HOT lane fees go towards NEW transit projects. That way the tea partiers and anti-MARTA crowd can't complain about it funding MARTA.

I suspect eventually the HOT lanes will follow the path laid by others, where they are turned over to public companies to run for profit with 50 year leases, and contracts that prevent or fine investment and improvement projects along the transportation corridors they serve.

Currently, the lanes bring in less than projected. Because future uses of this income are pretty much "TBD, when we've got some, we will let you know" I don't think we'll see them funding transit projects with it in the forseeable future. Which sucks.

Quote:
How will the HOT lane revenues be used?
The funds generated will be used to defray the costs of construction, operations and maintenance of the lanes. Long term revenue allocation is being studied and a decision about future excess revenues will be made later in the project process.
