GDOT yanks road projects due to federal funding crisis | Route 666

Quote:
The Georgia Department of Transportation announced Thursday that because of the ongoing uncertainty surrounding federal funding, the state DOT won’t release $123 million worth of federally funded projects for bids in December. The 34 delayed projects were previously scheduled to go out for bids at the end of this year.
You can see the list of affected projects here (PDF).

Good job, Congress!

The bridge rehab and preservation worries me. Beautification projects not so much.

Bridges are just Big Government out to get you. We should privatize roads and bridges and let the free markets operate them.

Snark or serious? This is the internet, after all...

...and this will get worse before it gets better. With one full year before the presidential election, notbing but political posturing will happen. There will be little to no governing until after the election. Gotta love it.

Now that is funny. I can see it now. Consumers choosing which bridge to use based upon which is least likely to collapse. Free-market driven decisions....

First Big Government got into my Social Security and Medicare now they are trying to get into our bridges. More Washington politics.

In all seriousness I am libertarian on many social issues, privacy etc. But it seems like a popular belief today that once we build something, like a bridge or road, that it's done. No more maintenance or upkeep ever needed. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I-35W_...ridge#Collapse

Our rail, highway, internet, other utilities, are literally crumbling or are in poor shape compared to much of the rest of the developed world. We have the money, we just haven't prioritized it. We'd rather send it to Donald Trump. To create jobs. In China.

Thank you. It is a scathing commentary on today's political environment that such basic concepts as funding our roads, our schools, and our scientific research, is a political issue. Almost no other developed society on Earth struggles with these self-inflicted wounds in the year 2015.
