My husband and I plan to retire in a couple of years and are doing prelim investigations. We are interested in Alpharetta, Roswell, Johns creek areas. We rescued a starving pit bull mix 7 yrs ago and she has never showed any agression whatsoever. That said I know the 55+ communities would not accept her even though at this point she is elderly. Are there any nice, safe areas where we could take her with us. Our price range would be from high $300k to low $400k. We would look to downsize 2 to 3 bedrooms in a neighborhood with sidewalks, close to shopping, walkable if possible, one floor living. Thank you all for your suggestions.

There are no breed restrictions in the areas you are interested in, in fact, all those cities are considered very dog friendly. If you move into an HOA governed neighborhood, read the covenants before signing a contract. But, walking distance to downtown Alpharetta or Roswell, in a ranch home, will not likely come with an HOA. They tend to be older homes. Builders just haven't been offering ranch models in recent years, except those in 55+ specific neighborhoods.

John's Creek is not as walkable as the other two towns.

Thank you for your response. My husband and I will be travelling this summer to explore the region. This old dog is important to us and as long as she lives we will have her with us. We come from a small town in New Jersey and we have always loved the south. Walkability is important since I am not comfortable driving. Thanks again.
