Oconee County overtook Buford as top district in the state; Fayette and Forsyth each dropped one spot. Something called State Charter Schools- International Charter School of Atlanta moved up 4 spots and upset the Top 10.

Why don’t they rate the private schools in this list, I wonder?

Because the private schools arbitrarily pick and choose who they enroll based on performance and income / ability to pay. Hardly a fair comparison to public schools. Seems pretty obvious to me.

Fulton is 63rd. When you look at the map you can see why - high ranking up north, low down south.

What stood out to me was how much higher Coweta County's Charter Academy ranked compared to the public school district. At first glance, I didn't see a similar disparity in other areas.

Of the mega-sized districts that have 9 or more High Schools, Gwinnett is on top at #34.

There are private schools all over the state, of course. Let's say you live in Americus. It would be nice to know the relative quality of Americus High School (public) to Southland Academy (private). I'm sure in many places, the local public school is as good, if not better, as the local private school. If I lived in Lee County, I would have a good public school option. But, maybe I would like to consider private Deerfield Windsor in neighboring Albany. A comparrison of the two would be helpful.

Private schools don't release the kind of data which public schools have to provide. That's why, Ansley.

Kudos to Clayton County's Schools' Elite Scholars' Academy for being the number one middle school in the state! ;0)

Considering Sumpter County Schools are ranked 175th of 189 districts statewide and Americus-Sumter HS is ranked 324th of 435 high schools statewide ... but I don't think the "relative quality" of pubic vs private is an issue for the people who live down there. Southland and Deerfield Windsor were both founded in the 1960s as segregation academies so whites could avoid sending their kids to school with blacks, and 50 years later that's still the case. Southland is 96 percent white and less than 1 percent back in a county that's 60 percent minority. Deerfield Windsor is only slightly better, about 5 percent black.
