Job transfer from Central Florida to Valdosta...We are looking at homes in the Valdosta area, but also considering Tifton or anywhere within a 45 minute drive of Valdosta. Good schools are a priority. Prefer suburban or somewhat rural area, that still has easy access to shopping, parks, etc. Must have good internet service
Pros and cons on different towns within this area?

Tifton schools (operated by the Tift County School District) get much emotional support from the Tifton and Tift County community.

And though Tifton seems to punch at least a little above its weight for a small city in mostly rural South Georgia (the Tift County High School boy’s basketball team won state championships in a Georgia high school basketball scene dominated by extremely tough and often talent-laden metro Atlanta schools), Valdosta is a larger town/city (Valdosta has about three-and-a-half times the population of Tifton) with more amenities and many more educational resources in the resource-rich urban Valdosta City School District and the resource-rich suburban/exurban/rural Lowndes County School District.

Because of the status of the Valdosta area high schools’ status as national football powers (Valdosta High School has more state and national championships than any other high school in the nation, while Lowndes High School ascended to the status of being a perennial state and national football power after the turn of the Millennium), and because of Valdosta’s larger industrial and employment base (which includes Moody Air Force Base north of town and a fairly large institution of higher learning Valdosta State University which attracts large numbers of students from metro Atlanta in the northern part of the state as well as from neighboring Florida), the Valdosta schools are able to get tons more financial support from their community and have many more financial resources than the schools in a less populated area like Tifton.

I might suggest Moultrie as another potential location, which is located about 50 minutes from Valdosta. There is plenty of shopping in the region. I don't know about the schools though.

Thomasville might be another possible choice due to proximity; however, it's smaller than Moultrie.

The past decade of state and national title contention by the Colquitt County Packers high school football team helped to generate enough money for the Colquitt County Schools system to recently construct an entire new campus for Colquitt County High School.

Perfect post!!! I would choose Valdosta if I was the OP. Tifton, Thomasville, and Moultrie may be next in line but Valdosta is big, yet small enough to offer everything needed.
