My husband and I are seriously considering a move to the Atlanta area this summer. We visited Woodstock 2 years ago and I really liked the Townlake area, but the homes were a little older then I'd like, (I'd prefer a home that was less then 5 years old). We were only there for a short visit, so I'd like to know more about the area, schools, (we will have 2 in elementary school and 1 entering middle school), crime and commute to Marjan Drive in Atlanta. I am looking for the same information about Cumming as well .

We are looking for an area that is 80-90% built up. We are not at all interested in country living, (acreage, winding roads, desolate, etc.).
While in the area, we visited a friend in Bridgemill in Canton. Although we loved her neighborhood, we hated what we saw while driving to it. Lots of broken down old houses along sides of the 1 lane roads.

Any help given will be very much appreciated!

Marjan drive in Dekalb county, right? The commute is probably the most important thing to consider - the traffic in the Atlanta area is the worst in the country. Unless the commute is an occasional one (home office based), you should seriously consider something closer. Yes, mapquest might say 45 minutes from Canton or 35 from Cumming, but your commute is easily going be twice that.

Marjan drive isn't far from the Gwinnett county border - Gwinnett has good schools, and is family friendly. And there are a lot of new subdivisions that will have the newer homes you're looking for.

Thank you for the information. I have heard the traffic in and out of Atlanta is horrible, but did not know to what extent.

Also, I don't know is Marjan Dr. is in Dekalb County, I assumed it was in Fulton.

Thanks again for your input.

Marjan Drive is east of I-85 about a mile inside the Perimeter (I-285) -- definitely in DeKalb County.

I've been the bearer of so much bad news recently, I will leave it to others to discuss the commute from Cumming or Woodstock to there.

if you leave for work at standard rush hour times, i dont see you making it to work earlier than an hour and thirty minutes. Either way you will sit either on the top end of 285 or 400 traffic.

As far as towne lake goes, there are neighborhoods that have been built within the last five years. Did you see all the neighborhoods?, there are alot. Towne lake has grown tremendously over the past 7-8 years, before that, there wasnt much to woodstock. However, since you dont want anything country I would consider living in the metro area. An area nearby to marjan drive is medlock bridge(johns creek)/p-tree industrial area. Very good schools, great neighborhoods, very safe, however the homes in that area are quite pricey.
