Has anyone spent time in both St. Augustine, FL and Valdosta, GA? If so, can you contrast and compare the two? Strange request, I know, but I have a reason for asking.

i was in st augustine working recently; mostly a tourist area. its smaller than valdosta, and traffic was pretty terrible at night. fair amount of shopping and dining available, but i'm not sure how much there is for the locals to do once you get past the tourist stuff.

its a lot closer to jacksonville though, which would be a nice benefit if you lived there.

i live in valdosta; lots of stuff for the kids to do, lots of shopping and dining, but not a lot of jobs right now. i'd say its a relaxed pace town.

anything specific you were wanting to know?

St. augustine is the oldest city in the U.S., and is much prettier, but valdota has more attractions

We are also looking at relocation to the valdosta area and have many questions "south georgia". We frequently visit valdosta on our way thru to florida but don't know much about the actual culture, family life, employment. We have two small children and would need good daycare opportunites and elementary schools. We are willing to commute for jobs but would like to know family friendly neighborhoods that would be good to live in. we are a young couple (early 30's) that love to be active. We have never relocated from our home town and would love any advice you would have. thanks in advance
