Hell yes it does. Place is awesome. Cole slaw is nasty though.

Sam's on the square is my favorite.

Two awesome places.

Technically, isn't Carrollton a suburb, since it's part of metro Atlanta?

I realize that it isn't connected to the rest of metro Atlanta's built-up area, but it's fairly close. In the very least, nearby Villa Rica and Temple are exurban areas, generally lower density suburban areas, while just a little ways away Douglasville is your typical suburban atmosphere. You make the area of Carrollton sound more like Bremen.

Carollton is quite some distance outside of the Atlanta metro. I wouldn't even call it an exurb.

Carroll county is part of the metro Atlanta MSA.

That doesn't make it a "suburb" at all.

Carroll County goes from just west of Douglasville to the Alabama border.

Literally.

Carrollton is dead center in the middle of the county. In terms of its relative position, it's very similar to other satellite cities like Griffin and Covington.

I don't consider those to be exurbs, either, much less suburbs (which implies contiguous development between it and the City of Atlanta). That is simply not the case.

45 miles is close enough to be called an exurb I think. I guess you don't consider cities such as Cartersville, Canton, Cumming, Newnan exurbs either. All of those cities are pretty far from Atlanta too.

I am a senior at UWG. Honestly, these people are mostly right. The best advice is from the person from Douglasville. I also have a job in which I deal with the general public here (I get a good cross section of the whole community) and the way these people behave it sickens me. I know a fellow student that works in fast food and the way she get treated. Let's just say I have never seen people treat a female so cruelly. Meanness for the sake of meanness.

I would like to address the fact that your husband is working at the school. The UWG community IS COMPLETELY SEPARATE FROM CARROLLTON! Student life is lame because everyone gets the hell out for the weekend (it used to be a great social school made the top ten party list at one point). The towns people largely like to ignore the school's existence. Go to Athens or Auburn, the community completely embraces the university. In Carrollton, that's not the case. The people here tend to resent the college if anything because of the imagined ill behavior of some of the students (I am proud to say that my fellow students conduct themselves well in town. It's mostly the children of the carrolltonites that i can't stand. If I get leered at by another white trash teenager in a dirty pink polo shirt with diamond earrings and terrible tattoos I might go crazy) Not to say the students aren't annoying, but we keep it on campus.

I don't understand why a rural town like Carrollton wouldn't completely embrace a WORLD CLASS UNIVERSITY that's on the way up. I do think it says something negative about the population though. This town is the opposite of progressive.

Powder Springs IS A GREAT IDEA. Also, the commute isn't quite as awful because you aren't heading into Atlanta.

Carrollton tries to pass itself off as Mayberry, but it isn't. It's just another GA town that grew way too fast during the housing explosion. The "10 cent" millionaire comment is spot on. You can tell the people here want to act like they live in a suburb.

The above grievances closely match mine so I am not going to get into it. The people that don't keep to themselves tend to be narrow minded and hateful for the most part (except some nice old people). If another person tells me Obama is the Muslim, socialist anti-christ I am going to snap. No sense of community really.

Everyone draws the high school like a gun when defending this place. There are two high schools. The city high school is the "nice" one. Those unfortunate enough to live outside the narrow city limits have to go to Central which is largely neglected (tax issues and such).

As far as the "nice" city school goes, their only real achievements are in athletics. If your kid is average then there is no advantage. Seriously, these people act like the only reason you go to high school is to play football.

The whole Ga School of excellence things is a joke. It's like being the healthiest person with AIDS. GA has a terrible school system to begin with. These little titles they give to certain schools are largely meaningless (sorry not to discredit any admirable educators, but that's how it is).

Sorry to be long winded but that's my summary of Carrollton.
Seriously, you consider Carrollton a rural town ? Get real. Go to South Georgia and you will find out what a rural town is. I hardly call a town within an hour's drive of one of the largest cities in America a "rural" town. Anyway, Carrollton is far from Mayberry, but you are really making it seem like it's a third world country or something. You seem like a very bitter person who is a bit on the snobbish side.

The Atlanta metro extends much further out in some directions (like northwest along I-75) than it does in others. The metro expansion isn't uniform in all directions.

I've given my opinion, and that's all it is. If people want to consider Carrollton a suburb, it's their problem if it doesn't meet the stereotype for them if they decide to move there on that basis.

Cartersville is an exurb and satellite city, like Griffin. Development stops at the Cobb/Bartow line along 41, and at Lake Allatoona in Bartow County along I-75. From each to Cartersville, there's relatively undeveloped land. When you get to Cartersville, you've got a nice size city, and what appears to be suburbs to the west, all the way out to Euharlee.

Canton is a suburb, not an exurb, of Atlanta. Development along I-575, Bells Ferry, Highway 5, and Toonigh Road connect it with the rest of metro Atlanta. That said, the area just east of Canton along Highway 20, on over to Cumming, is exurban in nature. If you were to look at a development map, you can clearly see the built-up area of Cherokee County being wide in southern Cherokee, practically taking up all of south Cherokee east to west, but narrowing as you go north, forming what looks to be a triangle of development. West of Canton, on over until you get to Cartersville is primarily rural, whereas areas north of Canton juxtapose between being exurban and rural on up to Ball Ground.

Cumming is also now a straight up suburb, not an exurb, given build-up around Georgia 400 and Highway 9. Areas west of Cumming along Highway 20 are exurban, as are areas north of Cumming, such as in the Coal Mountain area of north Forsyth.

Newnan is also now a straight up suburb, not an exurb, given development connecting Newnan to the rest of the Atlanta built-up area along Ga Highway 34 to Peachtree City, which is connected to Fayetteville, Jonesboro, Riverdale, and Stockbridge, by and large. If however, one travels along I-85, it does give Newnan the appearance of being a satellite city, given the lack of development between Fairburn and Newnan.

Covington is suburban these days. If you'd actually travel out that way, or get off I-20, you'd see that most of West Newton is now built-up, connecting to the Conyers built-up area in Rockdale County. From the west Newton development and newly built-up area, it flows right on in to the city of Covington, thus an unbroken built-up chain from downtown Atlanta on out to Covington. East of Covington is primarily rural, in areas such as Mansfield and Newborn.

What's more, that map you posted doesn't include Paulding and Forsyth Counties in with metro Atlanta, when it is clearly part of the Atlanta MSA, and when much of those counties are now suburban in nature.
