Our daughter will be attending GRCC later this year once my hubby and I decide on where to live in the GR area. The problem is, our daughter is resisting obtaining her driver's license although we feel it is necessary for her to have one. She really wants us to live within the public bus route (which really limits our choices), but many of the homes we've looked at are definitely outside of this route. Any thoughts on other options for her to use for public transportation? We really don't want to be shuttling her around all the time! Thanks for any suggestions!

Nope. Unless I'm missing something the Rapid is really her only choice. Options are 1) She gets a license 2)You live within walking distance (Heratige Hill) or 3) live near the bus routes.

In reality she should just get her license. Grand Rapids isn't exactly easy to navigate without a car.

I was going to same the same. If you live within 5 miles of GRCC, she'd probably get to school faster on a bike. I know year-round bike commuters around here.

I'm surprised that The Rapid doesn't come close to the areas you are looking (although I don't know where that is). Seems like their routes reach pretty far out into the inner suburbs.

Thanks everyone for the input! That's more or less what I figured. She better get her bike shined up if she delays getting her license any longer.

Bus 6 is an easy ride from East Grand Rapids to GRCC, has bike-racks on the front, and would allow you to seek housing within one of the more desirable areas of metro-GR.

The bike idea is completely valid either way.
