We are new to east grand rapids and I am Catholic. We have yet to settle into one of the Catholic churches in the area. Can anyone give me some general descriptions with the vibe and insider perspective on any that they are familiar with?

I have attended one mass at St. Thomas, one at St. Paul, and a few at St. Stephens.

We have 5 young children- ages 1yr- 8 years old, so a church that is good for young families would be a big plus. One with a nursery during mass would be outstanding.

thank you so much for any ideas shared

Sorry nobody has any insider info for you, but here's a link to general info about the diocese. Click on "Parishes" for info about particular parishes.

My parents go to St. Alphonsus on Leonard NE. It's a friendly place, and has a vibe in line with the new pope. It's common for people who move out to the suburbs to go back there for mass even when there are other parishes closer to their new homes. Also very nice old school architecture if you enjoy that kind of environment. If I end up going there when I'm in town, the stained glass draws me in every time.

There's another one, Immaculate Heart of Mary on Burton near Plymouth. We used to go to St Paul a looonnngg time ago. Seemed pretty family oriented and the music was pretty contemporary.
